Amnesty International with Jaguares.-Open Immigration Rights forum in San Francisco

Merritt College Amnesty International USA chapter in Oakland, CA and the Mexican band Jaguares.

In support of Merritt College's launch of its first AIUSA chapter in its history, the world’s largest human rights advocacy organization, Amnesty International, and Grammy Award-winning Mexican rock group Jaguares are holding a town-hall meeting to discuss immigrant rights.  The Campaign for Immigrant Rights is a top-priority campaign for AIUSA.

As the number of undocumented immigrants in the United States increase so do the human rights abuses against them. Armed with the March 2009 report “Jailed Without Justice”, Jaguares will engage the public in a thoughtful discussion about the state of immigrants in the US. Jaguares has a history of supporting Amnesty International in this cause including a partnership with the organization during its summer US tour.

Grand Ballroom at the Regency Center

1290 Sutter Street

San Francisco, California

November 21st, 4:00pm-5:00pm

The meeting is a rare opportunity for students; community members and the local media to participate in an open forum with the Jaguares band members and Amnesty International about immigrant detention in the United States.  Participants will be able to question the work Amnesty International and Jaguares are doing for immigrants’ rights, and discover what is currently being done (locally and nationally) in the fight for human rights. As a Mexican band with a large American following, Jaguares is in a unique position to call attention to the often forgotten immigrant population in America.  With their impassioned voices, the meeting promises to be a powerful one.
